We have a new parking lot which was completed in August. It is one of the few in the city that is designed to stop excessive water run off into Lake Superior. The concrete bricks have spaces between them which allow all rain and snow melt to filter into specially sized rock & gravel. The rainwater will then gradually be released naturally into the ground below thus preventing direct pollution run off into Lake Superior.
We've also recently completed changes in all the lighting in the office. Incandescent and fluorescent bulbs were changed to a new fluorescent design. As a result of these changes, Lake Superior Dental Associates is now saving 11,500 kilowatt hours per year. Based on estimates from the installer, this will result in an annual decrease in Carbon Dioxide emissions of 12.32 tons.
In addition to these changes, improvements have been made in our daily recycling of all plastic and paper products, along with other recyclables. We are pleased to be doing our part in addressing the environmental concerns.
